ITES Activity 3 by Cheryl Bullard
I have been looking at Standards and Clarifying Objectives for 4th-8th grade in the areas of Social Studies, Science and Visual Arts to see how they connect with the ITES. In addition to references about the use/selection of primary and scondary sources and the impact of technology on citizens and the sharing of technology between cultures, I began to see repeatedly the verbs from the Revised Bloom's Taxonomy. To be honest, I had forgotten that that was mentioned in class until it became so obvious. Looking at it this way has helped me to appreciate the thoughtful construction of these standards and objectives. I want more time to think about them before I write further. However, one preliminary observation is that that they all seem to follow the pyramid gradually approaching the highest levels of critical thinking.

Cheryl,
ReplyDeleteThank you for mentioning the verbs from the Revised Bloom's Taxonomy such as evaluate that show up in the ITES. I also notice these words on my administration's walk through feedback sheets for what they are looking for during walk throughs. Wonderful thought!

Cheryl,
ReplyDeleteYou have pointed out such a critical point in our work with the common core and essential standards. Higher level thinking skills are certainly going to be a focus of our work. Those verbs are our cues to the skills on which we will focus as we develop our units. Such an important point - thank you for making that observation!

Hi Cheryl, Excellent observation on the new Common Core, we really do need to prepare all students to remember, understand, apply, analyze, evaluate, and create. The individuals appreciation of the process allows it to be replicated and taught.
